StillePost - Versuchsanordnungen in Kunst und Wissenschaft. Angelika Böck und Hans Himmelheber

The catalogue published on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition at the State Museum of Ethnology in Munich (since 2014 Museum Fünf Kontinente) presents my first project next to an experiment by Hans Himmelheber which corresponds to my work. In the early 1970s, Himmelheber, an Africa expert, commissioned artists from various carving traditions in the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire to carve a mask of himself to prove that African artists made portraits which was contrary to the opinion of the majority of experts on African art at the time.
